Adopt-A-Beach Access |
|
The Adopt-A-Beach Access program is intended to
organize interested individuals and groups from the public and private
sectors to care for and clean up a specific beach access along Wrightsville
Beach on a monthly basis, especially during the period of heaviest beach
use (April 15 - October 15). Through this innovative conservation program, the Wrightsville Beach Parks and Recreation Department will attempt to motivate people of all ages to become directly involved in keeping our beaches clean and safe. The Adopt-A-Beach Access program objective is to increase public awareness and increase the sense of responsibility for a clean environment while promoting community spirit. Anyone can become involved in this community-serving program and take pride in the immediate results of their actions. While the Wrightsville Beach Public Works Department and some volunteer groups have and continue to contribute greatly toward keeping Wrightsville Beach a cleaner and more beautiful place, your assistance is needed. Our nation's coastline is facing an increasingly difficult problem as more and more litter is deposited on our beaches, and North Carolina's beaches are no exception. Unhealthy and dangerous debris continues to threaten humans and wildlife alike. Our residents as well as tourists are subjected to potentially serious injury from broken bottles and/or sharp metal left on our beaches. Plastic debris can hurt or kill wildlife as they become entangled in it or ingest it. Call (910) 256-7925 for more information on how you can Adopt-A-Beach Access. |
