Summer Programs

The Wrightsville Beach Parks & Recreation Department offers many summer programs. Click on the links below for more information and registration forms on our fun summer programs. Registration for all summer programs opens for Wrightsville Beach residents March 17 and for Non-residents April 7.

Women’s Tennis Ladder – Wrightsville Beach Parks & Recreation offers the Women’s Singles Tennis Ladder each summer. All players will be combined into a single ladder. Beginners learn to play competitively, and will gradually move up the ladder as their skills improve. Registration begins April 28. The fee is $15 for Wrightsville Beach residents and $20 for Non-residents. Click the following links for more information. Registration information, dates and fees.

Soccer Camp – The Wilmington Hammerheads will offer soccer camps at the Wrightsville Beach Park. The goal of the Wilmington Hammerheads and the Wrightsville Beach Parks and Recreation Department is to provide the highest quality soccer coaching program to the youth of our community. We are dedicated to teaching the fundamental skills and advanced technical and tactical play necessary to enhance each player’s game. Registration information, dates and fees.

Lacrosse Camp – Cape Fear Academy Head Coach Paul Gilbert leads the new Summer Lacrosse Camp at Wrightsville Beach Park. His team of instructors includes local area middle school and high school coaches. The goal of this new camp is to teach the fundamentals of lacrosse to youth in a fun and positive way. Sessions will consist of stick skills, and drills teaching proper catching and throwing. In addition to teaching rules of the game, sportsmanship will be taught, modeled, and rewarded. Youth Tennis Camp – Tennis pro Jackie Jenkins has been an LTA registered coach since 1977. She will teach the beginning basics of tennis by emphasizing sound fundamentals, from grips and proper footwork, to stroke production and movement. A great camp for those children who are picking up a racket for the first time or just starting to get the hang of it. Registration information, dates and fees.

Surfing Lessons – Three-day clinics offered each week during the summer months starting in June and continuing until mid August. The lessons meet on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. A 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. class will be offered only after the 7:00 a.m. classes are full. ART, JEWELRY, AND MOSAIC CAMPS These camps are taught by local artists, Susan Tharin & Julia Jensen.  In Art Camp, for ages 7 and up, students will explore basic painting techniques and bead crafting in addition to basic composition, design, and color concepts. Jewelry Camp, for ages 11 and up, teaches basic techniques of jewelry making including wire bending, wrapping, crimping, and stringing.  Also, students will learn basic glass fusing techniques in the construction of several glass pieces for their jewelry.  Monster Mosaic Camp, for ages 11 and up allows students to design, create and complete a large one-dimensional piece.  All supplies and a daily snack are included in the fee.  Camps meet in the Fran Russ Recreation Center located behind Town Hall. Creative Performance Arts Camps – Wrightsville Beach Parks and Recreation offers several creative performance arts camps during the summer. Professional actors, LJ Woodard, director of Wrightsville Beach School Performance Club and Gloria Crist of Theater Direct lead these exciting camps. All supplies and a daily snack are included in the fee. Registration information, dates and fees.
